Atomic Habits | James Clear | Book

If you’ve ever wondered why it’s so hard to stick to good habits and so easy to fall back into bad ones, grab this book and have a read!

Reading more inspiring books is a habit I’ve been trying to build, but I have found that sitting down and reading a physical book is just not something I can practically do all the time, even though I love to read. So downloading Audible and listening to these incredible books while I multitask is a great solution for me because it makes it a million times easier.

Hint: Making it easier = building a good habit!

I’ve found that the benefits of building good habits are often seen in the long game, whereas bad habits give you happiness or pleasure in the short game. This is why our bad habits are so easy to fall into because we demand happiness/pleasure right now!!! Not in a year.

I love that these lessons can be applied to literally everything in our lives…eating…work…exercise…the list goes on.

James Clear gives us his traumatising story of how he came across the framework of getting 1% better every day, ultimately designing a system where good habits emerge naturally and unwanted habits fade away.

At the end of the day, only you can change how you build your good habits, no one can make you.

When I think about his ideas for design in business, I think of consistency. Getting in the habit of consistently branding every little piece of visual communication your business produces will have enormous benefits.

Some of the benefits of consistency when it comes to branding are:

  1. You become memorable through repetition

  2. You build trust with customers because you look like a professional/legitimate business

  3. You start to break away from the crowd because your own unique style becomes more obvious

How do you stay consistent, you ask?

You’re working with a brand - you must have a Brand Guide.

A Brand Guide is a record/tool/resource that communicates all your brand foundations:

  • Logo variations

  • Brand fonts

  • Brand colours

  • Brand imagery

Depending on the size of your business, these guides can become larger and more restrictive.

So how does this help?

When creating all of your bits and pieces for your business (social media posts, flyers, car stickers, t-shirt embroidery, ANYTHING) they should be designed based on your brand foundations found in this guide. You use the same colours, you use the same fonts, and you use the same style of imagery.

Repetition = Consistency = Being Memorable = Trustworthy = Sales

When designing a unique brand identity for you, a brand guide is a non-negotiable that comes with this service. Even if you’re an existing business and you love your current logo, we can create a brand guide based on this and ensure you start being consistent from that point on.
